RECREATIONIST'S PARADISE
The rolling hills between Emmett and Horseshoe Bend provide ample
opportunities to enjoy all that is offered by the great Idaho outdoors.
Most readily available are ATV, horse and hiking trails. Black Canyon
Dam/Reservoir provides 5 minute access to boating, swimming and
fishing during the spring and summer months when anglers attempt
to catch the elusive largemouth bass, rainbow trout, crappie, white fish,
bullhead and channel catfish. During the fall, hunters try their luck at
bringing down a wide variety of waterfowl, upland game birds, deer and
elk. Spring is the perfect time to visit nearby Montour Wildlife
Management area and view numerous species of raptors, shorebirds,
songbirds, upland game birds, waterfowl and all kinds of wildlife. Winter
months are perfect for viewing deer and elk as they return to their
traditional feeding grounds in the hills along State Highway 52. For
skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, trips to Tamarack and Brundage
Ski Resorts to the north and Bogus Basin ski resort to the east make for great day trips. If white water is your passion, the nationally acclaimed whitewater of the Payette River is only an hour or so away. Looking for a place to pitch a tent or park an RV? Black Canyon and Montour both offer camping sites for a quick weekend trip or the pine covered mountains of McCall, Garden Valley or Stanley are a short drive if you need more time to recharge your batteries.
